Senior Accountant, Fixed Assets

The Senior Accountant, Fixed Assets plays a critical role in the accounting team, specializing in managing and maintaining the organization's fixed asset records. This position focuses on asset capitalization, tracking, depreciation, and reporting while ensuring compliance with applicable accounting standards. Responsibilities:  

  • Fixed Asset Management: Maintain and update the fixed asset register, ensuring accurate tracking of all fixed assets, including acquisitions, transfers, disposals, and impairments. 
  • Capitalization Calculations: Prepare and manage capitalization entries for labor, consultants, and expense reports in accordance with company policies and accounting standards. 
  • Depreciation Management: Calculate and book monthly depreciation entries, ensuring accuracy and alignment with company policies and applicable accounting standards. 
  • Capital Interest: Track and allocate capitalized interest in compliance with accounting standards. 
  • Insurance Allocation: Allocate and account for insurance costs associated with fixed assets. 
  • Impairment Analysis: Analyze and account for asset impairments in compliance with company policies and accounting standards. 
  • Capital Maintenance: Ensure ongoing maintenance of capital records, including timely updates to reflect changes in asset condition or status. 
  • Construction-in-Process (CIP): Track and manage construction-in-process accounts, ensuring proper classification and timely capitalization of assets upon project completion. 
  • CIP T&E Reclassification: Reclassify travel and expense items within CIP as needed to ensure accurate reporting. 
  • CIP Rollforward: Prepare detailed CIP rollforward schedules, ensuring the accuracy of balances and classifications. 
  • CIP Write-Off: Manage and process write-offs for CIP projects that are no longer viable. 
  • Reconciliations: Perform regular reconciliations of fixed asset accounts to ensure accuracy and resolve discrepancies. 
  • Asset Reporting: Prepare schedules and reports related to fixed assets for internal use and external audits, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations. 
  • Audit Support: Assist with external audits by preparing detailed fixed asset reports and providing documentation to auditors. 
  • Ad Hoc Duties: Undertake additional responsibilities and tasks as needed to support the dynamic needs of the accounting team. 


Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA or BS) in Accounting or Finance. 
  • 4-5 years of accounting experience, with a focus on fixed asset management or similar functions. 
  • Comprehensive and current understanding of financial statements, U.S. GAAP, and relevant accounting standards. 
  • Experience working in an emerging growth company, as well as experience in a private equity or investor portfolio company, is highly preferred. 
  • Proficiency in accounting software (Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations preferred). 


Skills and Abilities: 

  • Technical Proficiency: Strong knowledge of fixed asset accounting principles, including GAAP and relevant regulations. 
  • Data Analysis and Excel Expertise: Proficient in data analysis and spreadsheet tools, including advanced functions like VLOOKUP, pivot tables, and macros. 
  • Detail-Oriented: Demonstrated ability to manage detailed financial records with accuracy and precision. 
  • Communication Skills: Ability to clearly present complex financial data and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. 
  • Problem-Solving: Analytical mindset with the ability to identify discrepancies and recommend solutions proactively. 
  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational and time management skills to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
